Verse #8:

John 16:33

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Through our trials and tribulations, never fear! God has “overcome the world”.

Job 8:21

He will yet fill your mouth with laughter, and your lips with shouting.

Who says God doesn’t want us to be happy; to rejoice? That’s exactly the thing he wants us to do! So rejoice!

Verse #7: (by Angie)

An amazing verse by Angie, our second contest winner! Here are her thoughts:

Mine would be: “Work hard and become a leader, be lazy and become a slave.” Proverbs 12:24.

I have a lot of favorites, but this one has been on my wall at work for 2 years. It reminds me that while some choose to complain, those who pull themselves up by the bootstraps, go somewhere. Even through the storms we cannot become lazy or weak. We have to trust in God and just keep going.

Thanks for the great verse, Angie! To all readers, feel free (on this and other verses) to tell us your own thoughts on these verses. There’s no right or wrong; tell me your opinions!

Our first user-submitted verse! Happy Horse won the contest for the best verse and description. Here it is, word-for-word:

“Mine is Philipians 2:10-11.

…So that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

To me it means that even though people make fun of God right now, in the end every one will be bowing down to God.”

See why it’s a winner?! We’ll have more contests like this in the future. For now, feel free to share your own thoughts on the verse!

Verse #5:

James 2:13

For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.

It reminds us that we always need to be merciful; also that God’s mercy always prevails.

Verse #4:

Genesis 1:26

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

I’m focusing on the second part of the verse. “Let them have domion…” etc. Sometimes, we don’t have dominion. I’m not saying we should use nature’s resources to it’s full extent, but we should not go crazy about protecting nature. Yes, I love nature, but protecting it instead of us is not what this verse is saying! Dominion. “Over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth”. What do you think?

Verse #3:

Mark 12:30

And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’

Something most Christians have heard before; it radiates truth, doesn’t it?

Verse #2:

Philippians 4:13

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.

It is a basic truth; we can do anything with God. He’ll give us strength to do what we need to do.

Verse:

Mark 11:25

And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”

I think this verse should mean a lot to people (and does mean a lot to me), mainly because we need to be forgiven so many times. It’s good to know that God is always willing forgive us, isn’t it?
